Corvette makes changes to the Bose Gold system every couple of years. We are often asked how we test the Bose system. We have built all of our test harnesses needed for every Bose system that comes into the shop for repair. We specialize in the repair of Bose audio equipment. Your testing facility is your car.

	Three common styles of Bose amplifiers for Corvette
1) The first style of Bose amplifier, for '90-96 Corvettes has a connector at the printed circuit board internal to the Bose enclosure. This amplifier is known for many problems, our repair rate $80 with a lifetime warranty.
2) The second style of Bose amplifier, for '88-90 Corvettes is  hard wired to the amplifier and mates to the factory wire harness. This amplifier is known for many problems, our repair rate $80 with a lifetime warranty.
3) The third style Bose amplifier, '88 and older. Your car may have had past speaker or amplifier problems and was upgraded to one of the two newer style amplifiers. Disassemble the Bose enclosure and physically check for the style amplifier you have. We repair only the first two styles of amplifiers shown above. We can suggest several alternatives if you have the third style amplifier.

Symptoms can be a snap, pop, squealing, loss of volume, or no volume from one or more of the speakers. The snap and pop is most noticeable when turning the stereo on and off.

 Where do you start? We describe each different Corvette Bose stereo system, list common problems, and suggest tips so you can troubleshoot this system to the defective components. You need a voltmeter or test light for some steps.

First, check all fuses. Corvette does not label all their fuses. Most Corvette Bose Gold systems have three fuses. One or two may be labeled, "Radio" or "Audio, another "Bose". The three fuses:

• One is constant +12 volts. It supplies the power to the stereo system for Memory, remembering time and station preset buttons.

• The second fuse is +12 volts switched through the ignition. It supplies power to turn on the stereo.

• The third fuse is +12 volts, supplied to a relay in the car. The relay is energized by the "Amp Turn-on" signal from the car stereo. This +12 volts supplies powers to the Bose amplifiers.

If you are a new owner of a used Corvette, look closely at the owners manual. There have been occasions where we have found a fuse missing from the fuse box. A bad fuse is difficult to find when it is missing.
